IRAQ MORATORIUM CONTINUES!

Georgia Peace and Justice Coalition statewide meeting in MACON

The Georgia Peace and Justice Coalition is returning to Macon for another statewide on February 2, 2008.

The meeting will be held in the Fellowship Hall of the Cherokee Heights Methodist Church on Napier Avenue.

Don't you just hate it when . . .

you realize that your 'enemy' has some really profound redeeming quality?  You look up and all your highfalutten ideas and plans are buried by something that someone you least expect to hear it from says.  Checkout this quote and go out and seek the good in the 'other.'

"There are few things more disturbing than to find, in somebody we detest, a moral quality which seems to us demonstrably superior to anything we ourselves possess. It augurs not merely an unfairness on the part of creation, but a lack of artistic judgment. Sainthood is acceptable only in saints". -Pamela Hansford Johnson, poet and novelist (1912-1981

Everything old is new again

Fred Rogers always said that you "learn thing something old everyday".  We are staying true to that thought.  As I sit here and watch Tom Brokaw's "1968" I realize that Mister Rogers is, once again, a fount of wisdom.

As the war in Vietnam raged, I attended high school and went off to college, starting a life of blissful ignorance.  Now, as the occupation of Iraq continues, I go to work and watch my daughters' lives on their own begin.

Once again, it's time to make sense of life all over again.  Recently I heard another line that is of interest, "movements do just that, they come along and then move on, but revolutions keep coming around".

Vive le revolution!

Boycott the Olympics unless China helps with Burma

China is paralyzing UN Security Council action on Burma. They are the main economic, military, and political supporters of the military junta. For fifteen years China has refused to press its closest ally to allow its people human rights, and used its veto power to block the UN Security Council from acting. As a result, the UN is making the same mistakes it made on Darfur and Rwanda. We are calling on people of conscience throughout the world to boycott the 2008 Chinese Olympics, join our efforts.

Words of Peace:

The pursuit of peace and progress cannot end in a few years in either victory or defeat. The pursuit of peace and progress, with its trials and its errors, its successes and its setbacks, can never be relaxed and never abandoned.
